Our Tammy Perison, DDS Family and Cosmetic Dental Care dental team cares about you and your smile, which is why we strongly encourage you to take the healing period following oral surgery seriously.
Oral surgery in West Seneca, New York, is a major treatment and you need to do everything you can to properly recover. If you don’t, you could suffer severe negative consequences. So, to help you keep your smile in tip-top shape after oral surgery, your dentist, Dr. Tammy Perison, and your dental team strongly encourage you to do the following things:
-Make sure to rest and relax for a few days following your surgery. When you lie down, prop your head up with pillows to limit the bleeding and swelling.
-Ice outside the treated area with an ice pack for 15 minutes at a time.
-Once the bleeding stops, it’s important to stick to a soft-foods and liquid diet. Some good foods to eat include soups, yogurts, fruit, milkshakes, smoothies, and mashed potatoes.
-If your doctor gave you antibiotics, make sure you take them at the prescribed times and you also take all of the pills.
-Keep your mouth as clean as possible. After 24 hours, rinse your mouth with warm saltwater at least four times a day. We also recommend rinsing after each meal and snack so the food particles don’t irritate or infect the treated area.
